Live Tracker vs PTA’s Official Methods: What Each One Tells You

Many people get confused between a live tracker and the PTA’s official SIM-check services. They are not the same thing. Each one answers a different question. Use this table to pick the right one for your need.

To use the official routes: send your 13-digit CNIC (no dashes) by SMS to 668, type MNP and send it to 667 from the SIM in your hand, or visit the official portal at https://cnic.sims.pk. You can also read the rules on the PTA’s own website at https://www.pta.gov.pk. Remember: PTA’s official tools only show data for your own CNIC — no public PTA service reveals a stranger’s name or CNIC from their phone number.

Is It Legal to Use a Live Tracker in Pakistan?

Yes — with one clear boundary. Checking general SIM information from publicly available data is legal. Lawful uses include: identifying an unknown caller who rang your phone, checking whether your own SIM is active, and confirming which network a number belongs to before calling back.

What is not legal is accessing someone else’s private data without authorization. Under Section 16 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, unauthorized access to another person’s SIM or CNIC data is a crime. Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) actively investigates such cases. So the rule is simple: use this tool for your own safety and peace of mind, and never use any number’s details to harass, blackmail, or impersonate anyone.

Our site is an independent information service. We are not linked with PTA, NADRA, or any government entity — and neither is any website that claims to “officially” sell you a stranger’s SIM owner details.

How to Identify an Unknown Caller Safely

Got a missed call from a number you do not recognize? Follow these steps before you call back:

  1. Use the search box above. Enter the number and read the result card. Note the network and whether the SIM is active.
  2. Read the prefix. The first four digits tell you the original network (see the prefix table below). This alone is often enough to decide whether the call is relevant — for example, a delivery rider usually calls from a personal SIM on a major network.
  3. Do not share personal information. If you call back and the person asks for your CNIC number, bank details, or an OTP code, hang up. Banks and government offices never ask for OTPs on a call.
  4. Check your own SIMs if something feels wrong. If you suspect a fraudster is using your identity, send your 13-digit CNIC by SMS to 668. The reply lists every network with a SIM on your CNIC. A number you do not recognize needs action.
  5. Report spam and fraud. Report a spam number to your operator’s helpline (Jazz 111, Telenor 345, Zong 310, Ufone 333), or file a complaint with the PTA at 0800-55055. Keep screenshots of suspicious calls and messages — they are needed for a formal complaint.

If the result card says “Data Not Found in Free Records”, do not pay any third party who promises “complete fresh data” for a fee. Paid per-number SIM-owner data services are exactly what the law targets. Instead, use the official PTA methods for your own records, as explained in our CNIC information guide.

Pakistani Mobile Number Prefixes: Which Network Is It?

Every Pakistani mobile number starts with 03, and the first four digits (the prefix) were originally assigned to one specific operator by the PTA. This quick table covers the common ranges:

NetworkPrefix rangeNote
Jazz0300–0309Originally Mobilink
Jazz (ex-Warid)0320–0329Warid merged into Jazz; old Warid numbers now run on Jazz
Zong0310–0319China Mobile Pakistan
Telenor0340–0349—
Ufone0330–0338—
SCO / SCOM0355Regional operator (AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan)

Important caveat: because of mobile number portability, a number can keep its old prefix after moving to a different network. So a 0300 number might no longer be on Jazz. To confirm the current network of any number, send an SMS with the letter N, a space, and the number (for example, N 03001234567) to 76367 — a small SMS charge applies. Our lookup tool also confirms the network from available data. Prefix ranges can change after number portability, so the tool or the 76367 check gives you the confirmed answer.

Beware of Fake Live Tracker Scams

Because these tools are popular, scammers copy them. Watch out for these tricks:

  • “Fresh data for Rs 200/500” scams. No website can legally sell you a stranger’s SIM owner details in Pakistan. Sites that take payment for “complete data” are running an illegal operation — and they often take the money and send nothing.
  • Fake APK downloads. Any site that asks you to download a “live tracker APK” or “SIM database app” is likely installing malware on your phone. The malware can steal your contacts, messages, and bank OTPs. A real lookup tool works in your browser with no download.
  • CNIC harvesting pages. Some fake checkers ask you to enter your CNIC “to unlock the result”. Your CNIC is your most sensitive identity document. Never type it into a third-party website. The only official places to enter your CNIC online are PTA’s own portal (https://cnic.sims.pk) and NADRA’s official site (https://www.nadra.gov.pk).
  • Pressure tactics. “Only 3 searches left today — pay now!” or “Your number will be blocked” are classic scam lines. A genuine free tool has no countdown and never threatens you.

How to spot a trustworthy tool: it works in the browser with no app, never asks for your CNIC, never asks for payment per lookup, and openly says what it can and cannot show. If in doubt, stick to the official PTA methods for anything involving your own records.

Live Tracker FAQs: More Answers

What is the difference between a live tracker and PTA’s 668 service? A live tracker shows general SIM information about a number from publicly available data — network, status, and registration type. PTA’s 668 service is different: you send your own 13-digit CNIC to 668, and it replies with how many SIMs are registered on your own CNIC across all networks. The tracker answers “who is this number”, while 668 answers “what is registered on my CNIC”. They complement each other, and both are free or nearly free.

Can a live tracker show the exact location of a mobile number? No. No legitimate website can show a live GPS location from a phone number. Only law enforcement agencies, with a court order, can request location data from telecom operators. Any website claiming “real-time GPS tracking of any number” is a scam — it will typically ask for payment, an app install, or your personal details. If you need to find a lost phone, use Google’s Find My Device or Apple’s Find My.

Is this live tracker really 100% free? Yes. Every lookup on this page is free, with no sign-up, no app, and no payment. You do not need to create an account or share your personal details. Be suspicious of any site that asks for money per lookup — selling per-number SIM-owner data is illegal in Pakistan, and those sites usually disappear with your payment.

What should I do if the tool shows “No record found” for a number? It means the number was not found in the available public records. This can happen with newly issued SIMs, recently ported numbers, or numbers with restricted listings. First, double-check that you typed all 11 digits correctly (for example, 03001234567). If the number is correct, try again later. For your own SIMs, use the official PTA methods: SMS your CNIC to 668 or check https://cnic.sims.pk.

Can I track my lost phone with a live tracker? No — a live tracker shows SIM information, not a phone’s location, and it cannot ring or lock your device. For a lost phone, use Google Find My Device (Android) or Apple’s Find My (iPhone) to locate, lock, or erase it remotely. Then call your operator’s helpline immediately to block the SIM (Jazz 111, Telenor 345, Zong 310, Ufone 333) so no one can misuse your number or receive your OTPs.

Does the live tracker work for ported numbers? The prefix of a number shows its original network, but after mobile number portability the current network can be different. If the result does not match what you expect, verify the current network by sending an SMS with N and the number (for example, N 03001234567) to 76367, which is PTA’s official network-check service. Learn more in our SIM information guide.

How does a live SIM tracker work in Pakistan? A live SIM tracker in Pakistan works by checking a mobile number against SIM registration information. Pakistanis use it to identify unknown callers, confirm which network a number belongs to, and check whether a SIM appears active. You type the number in the search box, and the result card shows the available details in seconds — right in your browser, with no app or account. What it cannot do is show a stranger’s private record or live location: SIM registration data is protected, and only the CNIC holder can see their complete record through PTA’s official channels.

What can I check with a live tracker mobile number search? With a live tracker mobile number search, you enter any Pakistani number and check its general SIM details: the network it belongs to, its prefix, and whether the SIM appears active. This is useful when an unknown number calls you and you want quick information before calling back. A mobile number search does not reveal the owner’s full name, CNIC, address, or location — that data is private by law. To verify a SIM you own, use PTA’s official methods: SMS MNP to 667 from the SIM itself, or send your CNIC to 668 to count all SIMs registered on your CNIC.
